Common PPL Questions - The PPL Licence for Fitness Professionals
What is it? The PPL licence is essentially a fee paid to the PPL UK Ltd, a company that represents the music companies (e.g. Sony, EMI). The idea is that if you are using their music to make money, or in public, then you should pay more for it than someone who buys it to listen to privately.
What if my gym has one already? There are hundreds of different PPL licences, the chances are that your gym has one that covers them to play music in the background, not in fitness classes, so you probably will need one as well anyway. If in doubt speak to your gym manager.
Do I need more than one if I'm buying from lots of companies? No. Before FitMixPro was launched some other companies were saying you had to buy multiple licences. You don't. Buying one from here is the same as buying one from the PPL directly, or any of the other approved PPL Fitness suppliers.
Does the licence allow me to make copies? No. Which is why it would cover you to use a CD you bought from HMV for example, but not a download that you then copy to CD. The reason why you can burn CDs and copy your mix to iPods with FitMixPro is because we pay extra for a blanket licence to let you do this. You still cannot make copies for anyone else to use - that would be piracy.

After the payment has been processed you will be licensed immediately and a receipt will follow via email. Your PDF certificate including your unique licence number will be emailed to you once we receive this from the PPL (this may take up to 5 weeks). The price includes the Licence Fee, handling charge and VAT.
Downloading music for your classes from FitMixPro and burning it to CD or transferring it to an mp3 player, is 100% legal, as long as you hold a valid PPL Licence from ourselves or any other offical supplier. Click Here to see our official listing on the PPL website (opens in a new window).
Note: You DO NOT need a Pro-Dub licence to play music from FitMixPro.com in your classes, on CD or mp3, as we pay the PRS directly. See these official FAQS on the PRS site, Section 3.
The credit is added to your account after purchase and will appear in the Checkout for your next purchase. The credit is non refundable and only redeemable on FitMixPro.com music (not future licences), and valid for 12 months from being applied to your account.
